“The Nanny Project” (2004) arose from my experience of teaching in privileged parts of Toronto, where I became acquainted with several Filipina domestic workers who would drop-off and pick-up the children for whom they cared. This work re-presents the “Filipino nanny” as a woman with her own identity and distant life. 

The installation includes a bookwork of their lithographic portraits, screen prints of artwork produced by the child in their care, and excerpts from interviews conducted with the women about their lived experiences.

This work raises questions about the forced migration of Filipino women due to economic reasons and the personal consequences of this global trend.
