Sessional Teaching

Instructor of Writing for Artists, Continuing Studies, Ontario College of Art and Design University.

CSLW 1N18 Course description: Writing is an essential skill for visual artists. This course is an introduction to how writing can be used in visual art from artist statements and grant proposals, to incorporating creative writing into art projects. Through discussion, readings, and writing exercises, students will strengthen their written communication skills and learn how to use them as a tool for their creative process. As a workshop course, students will have the opportunity to apply these skills to their own practice. This course qualifies for both the Certificate in Theory and Criticism in Art and Design and the Certificate in Business Skills for Creative Professionals.

Instructor of Art and Design Education Lab: AGO, Faculty of Art Ontario College of Art and Design University.

CROS 3008 Course description: Developed in partnership between the AGO and OCADU, this course introduces students to the fundamentals of art and design education, both theoretical and practical. The course builds on a studio-seminar model, with learning outcomes/objectives enhanced by studio projects as well as by students’ placement as assistants in the AGO School of Art. Students will explore the issues of studio pedagogy and contextual learning within the context of the innovative educational programs for children and youth.

Instructor of Current Trends in Contemporary Art, Continuing Studies, Ontario College of Art and Design University.

CSLH 1N25 Course description: Contemporary art is activism, community outreach, video, sound, new media installations and performance. Concurrently, much of contemporary art still encompasses traditional mediums such as sculpture, ceramics, photography, textiles, printmaking, painting, and drawing. Through lectures and class discussions, students will examine the historical roots of certain non-traditional forms of art-making, as well as discover how contemporary artists are responding to more traditional media. Each class is centered around an aesthetic impulse: diaspora, decolonial, feminist, queer, the “pedagogical turn”, and relational aesthetics, and include readings, presentations, discussions, guest speakers, and gallery visits. This course qualifies for the Certificate in Theory and Criticism in Art and Design.
